Meet our Gangmakers
De Bijloke Music Centre brings people together by allowing them to experience the richness of music. As a concert hall at the heart of contemporary (music) life, we cannot fulfil that mission on our own. From 2023–2024, we will be appointing three talents each season to help us with this. What is a ‘Gangmaker’?
To keep our finger on the pulse and hold up a critical mirror to ourselves, from 2023–2024 onwards we will appoint three young talents each season. We will set them the task of working – over the course of two seasons – on a defined theme that is closely linked to their own practice and relevant to the Muziekcentrum.
Their observations, experiments and findings will challenge and stimulate our team behind the scenes, and also spark our own thinking. That is why we call them the Gangmakers. By exploring an issue in depth, both parties benefit. At the end of the process, the Gangmakers will formulate recommendations for a 21st-century concert hall.
Discussion Evening
The cross-pollination between the Gangmakers and our Bijloke team largely takes place behind the scenes. Nevertheless, we believe it is important that you, our audience, can follow the research too, and we are looking for ways to involve you.
On Sunday 31 May 2026, the three Gangmakers will be in conversation with experts from their respective fields in our Café. These are sure to be three fascinating discussions with fellow creators, thinkers and artists about their chosen themes. Make a note of the date in your diary! The meeting will be in Dutch.
Display cabinets in the corridor
What you can already discover are the display cabinets, symbolically situated in the corridor between the Café and the Concert Hall. Over the course of this and next season, each Gangmaker will fill their cabinet with objects, documents and videos that occupy their thoughts or illustrate their research. Do pop in and discover what they’re working on!
