Johan Sabbe

Johan Sabbe studied jazz piano and composition at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. After years of working as a pianist, arranger, conductor and programmer, from 2010 he started studying sound painting with composer Walter Thompson, with whom he performed in several European cities. He is much in demand as a sound painting teacher and gave workshops in various academies and conservatories in Flanders. Furthermore, Sabbe is founder of the Safety Last Soundpainting Ensemble, which was formed in the context of the festival Coté Jardin 2023 at the request of Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent. The ensemble played a live composed soundtrack for the classic silent film “Safety Last” by Harold Lloyd. Sabbe teaches piano, music theory, composition and sound painting at the Kunstacademie De Poel jazz piano at the conservatories of Ghent and Brussels.
