The Big Little Music Competition is the annual international chamber music competition organised by Muziekcentrum De Bijloke & Anneleen Lenaerts. The first edition took place in 2023. Find out all the prevous winners below!

2026

Jury Prize: Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet
The jury prize at the Big Little Music Competition 2026 went to the Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet. Anneleen Lenaerts: ‘After a fantastic two days featuring eight wonderful ensembles, we are delighted to announce Dokwerk as the winner of this third Big Little Music Competition. They impressed us with their clear sound and identity, and a compelling musical narrative.’

Audience award: Les 4 Sens
The Belgian quartet Les 4 Sens received the most votes from the audience and took home the vdk bank Audience Award, worth €2,500. Their recital, which focused on 20th-century music, stood out for its stunning Yves Klein blue costumes and the staging, in which the four members moved around the room whilst singing.

2025

Jury prize: Two Systems
Two Systems can now call themselves the jury winners of the 2025 Big Little Music Competition. The accordion duo, who have been playing together since 2018, won the final with a varied programme featuring music by Machaut, Mozart, Ravel and Uros Rojko. The jury, led by chairman Geert Riem, was hugely impressed by the quality of their performance.

A little later, there was more applause for Lowie Vercammen and Louis De Backere, the men behind Two Systems, as they were also presented with the vdk bank audience award, worth €2,500. The large audience in attendance had been able to vote for the winner on the night of the final itself.

2023 (first edition)

The first edition of the Big Little Music Competition was a resounding success. The professional jury was ‘extremely impressed by the high standard of the young chamber music ensembles’. The winner was the Italian-Swiss Aliis Trio, which won over the jury with its elegant, impeccable performance of Beethoven’s ‘Archduke Trio’.
